Walking Together was a participatory arts project and temporary installation held at Agency Village Tribal Administration Building of Sisseton. Walking Together was a a cross-cultural celebration between the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribe and the non-native community of Sisseton. The celebration was about understanding and acceptance through the breaking down of cross-cultural barriers; the misconceptions and misrepresentations of Sisseton’s diverse community; and coming to terms and understanding of the turbulent histories of Native populations that in some cases still exist today.
Walking Together was supported by a South Dakota Arts Council; Artist in Communities Grant; Sisseton Arts Council; and special thanks to the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Council at Agency Village.
