The City of Las Vegas celebrated its 100th birthday in 2005. To celebrate, the City of Las Vegas decided to plan events throughout the year. One of the first events was the Las Vegas Centennial Celebration 100 Murals Project.
The Centennial Celebration mural was the “flagship” mural for the Las Vegas Centennial Celebration 100 Murals Project. The Lied Discovery Children’s Museum hosted the event with the help from Mayor Oscar Goodman and students from Elaine Wynn Elementary School. Also attending were nonprofit and for-profit organizations who helped in donating supplies.
By the end of 2005, local and national artists were able to paint 150 murals throughout Southern Nevada. There were murals were painted at public schools; at the University of Nevada Las Vegas; the Community College of Southern Nevada; Wynn Casino; Las Vegas Art Museum; the Las Vegas Natural History Museum; the Springs Preserve; and nonprofits throughout Southern Nevada.
