Art Alley Gallery

Art Alley Gallery | 2024 | Between Stavig Building and First Savings Bank | Sisseton, S.D.

Art Alley Gallery was an art and design idea that focused on repurposing a short alleyway between the Stavig Building and First Savings Bank. The idea of Art Alley Gallery sprang up last year between a number of local artists, all of whom are members of The New Old artist collective. When approval was given by First Savings Bank in allowing The New Old to showcase artists work along their eastern wall, they sprang into action to create a call-to-artists to showcase local art work within the alley. First Savings Bank was given the task of selecting the artworks for the gallery, which was not an easy decision knowing that only eight out of over 50 artworks would be chosen. Artists selected were: MJ Derhak, George Frerck, John Rasmussen, Alexis Monroe, Nicholas Blaske, April Mathison, Phyllis Bruguier, and Kay Quale. Artists work will be displayed in Art Alley Gallery for the duration of two years.

Thanks to the Dream Team who helped with the initial vision and eventual completion of Art Alley Gallery: Dustina Gill, Nicholas Blaske, MJ Derhak, Alexis Monroe, and artist in residence, Markus Tracy. Thanks also to First Savings Bank, Sisseton Arts Council, Sisseton Area Chamber of Commerce, Liz Renville at Firefly Fine Art & Photography, The Sisseton Courier, and the South Dakota Arts Council.
